Our family farm is set in a beautiful location in the heart of the Alkham Valley on the Kent Downs near to Dover in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The farm has been owned by the Burrows family for over 50 years and during this time diversified from a very traditional mixed farm to what you see today.

In 2016 Greenhill Glamping welcomed its first guests to the Shepherd’s Watch, a beautifully restored shepherd’s wagon from the late 19th century offering guests a top quality, luxury glamping stay surrounded by stunning hills and countryside. Read the restoration story below.

Our farm is all on natural chalk grassland and grazed with our own flock of sheep. Horses from our livery yard also graze alongside in nearby fields. You may be lucky at dusk and see our wild badgers exploring the countryside from their many setts around the farm. Listen carefully and you may also hear owls, pheasants and other wildlife whilst relaxing around the fire-pit during the evening.

Some of our steep hills around the farm are completely unspoilt and untouched by generations, full of natural grasses, wild orchids, cowslips and colonised by butterflies.

Why not enjoy some pretty country walks or even horse riding in the Alkham Valley at the nearby riding centre. Explore our farm walk with stunning views of the village of Alkham with its church dating back to the 12th century. Or if you feel the need to explore further afield, then the White Cliffs of Dover, the Kent Coast and Dover Castle are within 15 minutes’ drive away. Also, the historic cathedral city of Canterbury is 20 minutes drive away and the trendy Margate seafront is 40 minutes with the Turner Contemporary art gallery and vintage shops.

Our unique shepherd’s hut is over 120 years old and has been lovingly restored by ourselves offering you a cosy hideaway oozing with charm and character. Shepherd’s Watch sits in its own private grass meadow with stunning views across our farm and the Kent Downs. It’s very spacious inside and has been furnished with bespoke features to a very high standard. You’ll have all the comforts you can’t live without, a luxury hot shower with toilet and wash basin, king-size bed and kitchen area with table and chairs. The hut is insulated with sheep’s wool and has a wood-burner with a free supply of logs to keep you warm and cosy. We want your stay in our shepherd’s hut to be as relaxing as possible with lots of little extra touches to give a real feeling of luxury.

Our grand shepherd’s wagon from the age of steam. Made in the 1890’s by Marshalls of Gainsbor- ough, manufacturers of steam engines & agricultural equipment. Placed in a field opposite the Botolphs Bridge pub on the Romney Marsh in Kent for over 75 years, it had remained abandoned.

During the 2nd World War, the wagon was used as shelter by British troops manning a gun battery near the pub. Look out for the signatures of some of the soldiers on the wooden panelling inside. The earliest signature we have found inside is dated 1923 and is positioned just below the bedroom window. In 2015 we transported the wagon back to our farm and spent 9 months restoring it into a fully self contained luxury living accommodation.

The wagon, showing off its lovely red wrought iron wheels is now ready to face the next 120 years!

We look forward to our guests enjoying its sense of history, with glorious summer sunsets and won- derful views across our family farm whichever season you may choose to stay.
