ABOUT GREENHILL GLAMPING
Greenhill Glamping is set on our family farm in the beautiful location of the Alkham Valley on the Kent Downs near Dover in an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Greenhill Farm has been owned by the Burrows family for over 50 years. For 15 years we have provided B & B accommodation at Alkham Court. Then in 2015, we decided to renovate a Shepherd’s Wagon. The idea was to provide glamping accommodation near Dover for those looking for something a little different. And so Greenhill Glamping was born.
In 2016 Greenhill Glamping welcomed its first guests to the Shepherd’s Watch. Shepherd’s Watch is a beautifully restored shepherd’s wagon from the late 19th century. It offers guests top quality, luxury glamping stays surrounded by stunning hills all within the beautiful Kent countryside. Read Shepherd’s Watch restoration story here.
In 2018 a second wagon was finally renovated, The Ploughman’s Retreat. This was also a 19th-century hut and was restored in 9 months. The hut oozes individual character and the hand-crafted seat outside made from sleepers nestled into the bank makes it the perfect spot to catch the sun and watch the sun go down over the Alkham Valley. OUR VIEWS INTO THE ALKHAM VALLEY
Our farm is all on natural chalk grassland and grazed with our flock of sheep. The horses from our livery yard also graze alongside in nearby fields. You may be lucky at dusk and see our wild badgers exploring the countryside from their many setts around the farm. You’ll also hear owls, pheasants and other wildlife if you listen very careful at the fire pit in the evening.
Some of our steep hills around the farm are completely unspoilt and untouched by generations. Here you can find natural grasses, wild orchids, cowslips and colonised by butterflies.
You can enjoy some pretty country walks or even horse riding in the Alkham Valley at the nearby riding centre. Afterwards why not explore our farm walk with stunning views of the village of Alkham with its church dating back to the 12th century.
The benefit of glamping near Dover is that the White Cliffs of Dover, Kent Coast and Dover Castle are all within a 15-minute drive. The historic cathedral city of Canterbury is also just a 20-minute drive. While trendy Margate seafront is 40 minutes where you’ll find the Turner Contemporary art gallery and vintage shops.
